Matt played his first gig on trumpet at age 13 and has been hooked on making music ever since. He came to New York in 1987 to attend Manhattan School of Music and since then has gone on to have a highly eclectic career, performing many different styles of music. He’s currently working with his small jazz trio, City Line, in addition to his usual commitments with Prometheus Brass, New York Brass Choir and Mid-Life Tom and the Crisis. In the past he has performed with the Four Tops, Temptations, Duprees as well as the New York Grand Opera, Garden State Philharmonic and Queens Oratorio, as well as maintaining an active teaching studio.

The Matt Ragsdale/CityLine Trio is a collaborative effort of three longtime NYC musicians from widely diverse musical backgrounds, committed to exploring jazz in a small group setting.

Currently a member of both Prometheus Brass and the New York Brass Choir, Matt is also available for solo appearances and masterclasses as well.

Over the course of his career, Matt has taught students from age 8-78, in a variety of different institutions and styles. His focus is on finding each student’s comfort level and individual learning style, then building on successes. Currently he is accepting students.
